No Ads for 12 Months, Diary Booked 3 Months Out — How Darren Grew Without Spending on Leads

20 August 2026

Darren is an award-winning paving installer. His work speaks for itself — but a year ago, getting that work in front of the right people was quietly costing him his evenings and weekends.

The Problem

When we first started working with Darren, he had someone running Facebook ads for him in the background. On paper, leads were coming in. In reality, Darren was spending all day on-site doing the actual work, then heading out to appointments in the evening — time that should have gone to his family and the life outside the business.

The bigger issue: those leads weren’t qualified. Darren was showing up to appointments that went nowhere, burning his limited free time on people who were never going to convert. He was busy, but he wasn’t closing.

What We Changed

Instead of pouring more money into ads, we shifted the focus to the leads Darren was already getting — and to building up his organic presence so more of the right leads would find him without paid spend at all.

That meant:

  • Full nurture on every lead — no enquiry got left to go cold. Every single one was followed up on properly, consistently, until it either converted or was clearly a dead end.
  • Working his Google Business Profile — keeping it active, current, and working for him.
  • Organic content on his website — blogs and updates that build authority and bring in search traffic without ad spend.
  • Facebook presence managed organically, rather than paid.

The Nervous Patch — and the Payoff

By December last year, it was genuinely tight. The book was thin and there wasn’t much lined up. But rather than panic and push ad spend, we stayed disciplined on the nurture process — following up on every lead that came through, thoroughly.

It paid off. By the end of February, that consistent follow-up had filled Darren’s diary all the way through to the end of May. And it hasn’t stopped since — it’s been a steady, ongoing process from there.

Darren has not run a single paid ad this year. He’s stayed consistently busy, off the back of leads generated organically and converted through proper nurture.

The Takeaway

Sometimes the issue isn’t lead generation — it’s what happens after the lead comes in. Following up properly, working your Google profile, building out your website with real content — that’s often where the growth actually comes from.
